The Geology of Kirkby Stephen in Minecraft

Welcome to a free downloadable Minecraft map containing a 3D recreational the geology at Kirkby Stephen, England!
The map contains a 1 km2 area with underlying geology that is found around the Birkett Hill area of Kirkby Stephen. Armed with a pickaxe, shovel, and geological field notebook, explore the sedimentary rocks that were laid down over 300 million years ago, when this part of England was once underwater!
A licensed copy of Minecraft is required.
How to Instal Map
- Download the Kirkby Stephen Geology.zip (3.4 MB)
- Unzip the file to a temporary location
- Navigate to the Minecraft folder*
Windows: %APPDATA%\.minecraft
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux: ~/.minecraft - Open the ‘Saves’ folder
- Move the unzipped map folder to the ‘Saves’ folder
- Launch Minecraft and select ‘Single Player’
- Select the world ‘Kirkby Stephen Geology’
If you are struggling to navigate to the Minecraft folder then follow this alternative pathway
- Launch Minecraft
- On the Home Screen, click ‘Options’
- Click on ‘Resource Packs’
- Click ‘Open Pack Folder’
- Navigate to ‘Saves’
Controls
- Keys ‘a’ ‘w’ ‘s’ and ‘d’ are used to move around the map
- Space bar lets you jump
- Double space bar lets you fly
- When flying, space bar causes you to ascend and shift descend
- Left click breaks blocks
- Right click builds blocks or opens notebook
- Number keys switch items in the hot bar
All controls can be changed by going to the Home Screen and clicking on ‘Controls’
